Record High Number Of Illegal Migrants Crossed Southern Border In May, No Signs Of Slowing Down

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that a record-high 239,416 illegal migrants crossed the Southern Border in the month of May. About half of those illegals were allowed entry into the United States.

During the same month last year 180,597 illegal migrants crossed the southern border with 23.237 illegal migrants crossing when Donald Trump was in office in 2020.  Trump had enacted a series of immigration policies to curb the flow of illegal migrants after 144,116 illegal migrants were encountered in May of 2019 – all of those Trump Era policies have been reversed by Joe Biden.

The record-breaking number of illegal migrants comes as Biden continues his fight to rescind Title 42, the public health order implemented during the Trump Administration. If Biden is successful experts believe more than 500,000 illegal migrants will cross into the country each month.

The massive influx of illegal migrants that continue to cross the southern border have left Border Patrol agents overwhelmed and overworked. Most of the highly trained agents spend their days processing illegal migrants instead of securing the southern border.

According to Gil Maza, who spent nearly 30 years in the force, morale amongst border agents is at an all time low as they also have to deal with an administration that does not ‘have their back’ and a vaccine mandate that threatens their livelihoods.

CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus released a statement encouraging migrants not to make the trip,

“As temperatures start to rise in the summer, human smugglers will continue to exploit vulnerable populations and recklessly endanger the lives of migrants for financial gain. The terrain along the Southwest Border is extreme, the summer heat is severe, and the miles of desert that migrants must hike after crossing the border are unforgiving,” he said. “Our message to those who would try and gain illegal entry to the United States remains the same – don’t make the dangerous journey only to be sent back.”

But as officials claim to be discouraging illegal migration Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has stated that an illegal migrant cannot be deported simply for being in the country illegally.

Since Biden took office about 1.75 million illegal migrants entered the United States pushing the foreign-born population to a record-high 47 million.
