#new Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico said that meat reduction is “existential” for climate change and animal welfare, so his campaign swore off meat and became vegan.
“I am proud to say that our campaign has officially become a non-meat campaign. We are only buying vegan products from our local vegan businesses.”

Paxton has labeled Talarico
“Tofu Talarico” – for his non-meat vegan campaign statement
“Six-Gender Jimmy” – over Talarico’s claims that there are “six biological sexes”
“James Tala-freak-o” – over his stance on social issues.
“Low-T Talarico” – accusing him of not being manly enough for Texas,
“James Talarico is a threat to everything we hold dear in this state and in this country.”
He called him a
“Texas-faced puppet for Chuck Schumer and the national Democrats” who is weak on crime, supports open borders, insults Jesus Christ, won’t support the military, pushed masks, and dislikes meat.
Talarico came out as vegan in a previous speech, but was then seen eating meat in public, like turkey legs at the Texas State Fair.
And the democrat keeps handing Republicans ammo in the Senate race, telling voters the first thing on his mind besides family is “trans kids” while dodging the state’s real crises like the border, inflation, fentanyl deaths, and jobs.
Talarico was asked:
“What is something that you love, other than family and friends?”
His answer:
“I love — I’m just saying this because it’s on my mind — the trans children who showed up yesterday at the state capitol to advocate for their humanity. They shouldn’t have to, but it was an inspiration to watch.”
Republicans say this is exactly why Talarico can’t win statewide.
They say a guy whose top thought outside family is trans kids – not securing the border, stopping fentanyl, bringing down prices, or creating jobs – is completely detached from everyday Texas values.
Plus his interpretation of the Bible, including claims that Jesus is okay with abortion, and that God is non-binary, have Christians across the state – including democrats – running in the opposite direction.
President Trump has also mocked him as out of touch for pushing California-style green vegan priorities in the heart of cattle country.
The remarks happened in 2022, and 2023 – but resurfaced after Paxton’s runoff win.
