Mother Son Duo Arrested, Charged With Assaulting Off Duty El Paso Police Officer

A mother and son duo attacked an undercover police officer and threatened her with a knife after a car crash, according to El Paso Police.

Authorities say Officer Delia Dyer was off duty and driving northbound on Resler.  Meanwhile 18-year-old Shaughn Gonzalez was driving a truck with his 40-year-old mother Josephine Gonzalez Rosales. Shaughn did not yield the right of way at Escondido causing the two vehicles to crash.  Both vehicles were disabled.

Police say while the three were waiting for a patrol officer to arrive  Shaughn threatened the undercover officer with a knife. Then he and his mother tried to tackle Dyer to the ground.

Dyer was helped by the Fire Department who stepped in and stopped the assault. Both Shaughn and his mother took off, however Joesphine returned to the scene where she was arrested and Shaughn was arrested the next day.

They were booked in to El Paso County Detention Facility and released on bond.

Shaughn has a $25,000 bond and is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Joesphine was released on a $3,000 bond and being charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury.

Dyer is a 20-year veteran of the Department, assigned to the Investigations
Bureau

El Paso, Texas – On May 9th, 2022, officers from the Westside Regional Command responded
to the intersection of Resler and Escondido in reference to a crash. The investigation revealed
the victim, an off-duty police officer, was driving her vehicle northbound on Resler when a
truck, driven by Shaughn Gonzalez, failed to yield the right of way at Escondido causing the
officer to collide with Shaughn’s truck. Both vehicles were disabled as a result of the collision.
The officer and Shaughn were waiting for a patrol officer to respond at which point Shaughn
and his mother, Josephine Gonzalez Rosales, assaulted the officer. The mother and son then
attempted to tackle the officer to the floor but the officer was assisted by the Fire
Department who intervened to stop the assault.
During the assault, Shaughn held a knife in his hand and displayed it in a threatening manner
toward the officer. Both subjects fled the scene before patrol officers arrived. A short time
later, Josephine returned to the scene and was arrested. Shaughn was arrested the day after
the assault. Both subjects have since been released from the El Paso County Detention
Facility.
