The neighbors of a man who is being charged with kidnapping, raping and torturing a 22-year-old woman in a California neighborhood are now saying they heard screams coming from the home for months
Officials say 59-year-old Peter Anthony McGuire held the victim hostage from January through June after she moved into his home in Chino Hills.
According to the criminal complaint, McGuire “cut and disable the tongue, and put out an eye and slit the nose, ear and lip” The woman escaped from McGuire’s house and was found in a state park near the home, when people in the park saw the woman they called 911.
One neighbor told The Sun that they posted concerns about the noises coming from the house to an online chatroom and found out they weren’t the only ones,
“Another neighbor reported some banging on the wall, and he called police because he could hear the banging and he could hear screams for help. I think, some people were too scared to say something, or maybe they did call the police. But the police didn’t do anything about it. They said there was no substantial evidence for them to do a wellness check … I was told, there was no way for them to pinpoint where the screams are coming from.”
“There have been calls for service from nearby neighbors since the beginning of the year referencing possible domestic disturbance. A deputy responded to each of the calls and no disturbance was ever substantiated. The house was quiet and no one answered the door during each of the calls.”
Police say they believe there may be additional “victims of criminal acts committed by McGuire” and are urging anyone who has any information about the case to contact Detective Ryan Girard or Deputy Dan Renear at the Chino Hills Station, (909) 364-2000.
McGuire who is reportedly a private investigator, has plead not guilty to all charges.
The woman is in stable condition in a hospital.
