Authorities say one suspect in in custody after a woman was killed and three other people were injured in what appears to be a stabbing spree that happened early Monday morning in Long Beach, California.
Police say there is not an “active threat” to the public, but did not release the suspects name that is being described by investigators as ‘homeless.’
According to officials, numerous attacks are being investigated for possible links to each other.
The first attack happened near St. Mary Medical Center, and was reported at 5:35 a.m. The woman in that attack was rushed to the hospital where she died.
While investigators were at the first scene, the report of another stabbing was called in about a half mile away at 6:25 a.m. The LBPD said a man was stabbed in his upper body, taken to an area hospital and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The third attack happened at 7:05 p.m. less than a mile away from the second stabbing, along the city’s shoreline. Police said two males were stabbed in this final attack. One of those males was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The LBPD said that the suspect was arrested with a weapon,
“Officers have arrested a male adult suspect in possession of a knife at the scene.”
According to reports, one witness said they saw a suspect running along the shoreline at Alamitos Beach saying he planned to kill everyone in his path.
Police are trying to figure out what motivated the suspect and are looking for additional witnesses.
