A number of Catholic organizations are speaking out in defense of Pope Leo XIV. – including several democrats in congress who are Catholic – saying President Trump is disrespectful.
Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly of the Knights of Columbus is claiming that many Catholics are disappointed by President Trump’s comments directed at Pope Leo.
Kelly said that “the Successor of Saint Peter is not a politician — he is the Vicar of Christ, entrusted with proclaiming the Gospel and shepherding souls.”
He noted that the pope “has consistently called for peace, dialogue, and restraint in a world marked by war and suffering.
“The Holy Father’s words are not political talking points — they are reflections of the Gospel itself,” said Kelly. “Whether one agrees or disagrees with particular policy judgments, the Holy Father’s prophetic voice deserves to be heard with respect and engaged seriously.”
The President said that Pope Leo was weak on crime and had terrible foreign policy. Adding that “he talks about the ‘fear of the Trump Administration, but doesn’t mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organizations, had during COVID when they were arresting priests, ministers, and everybody else, for holding Church Services, even when going outside. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE… Unfortunately, Leo’s Weak on Crime, Weak on Nuclear Weapons, does not sit well with me, nor does the fact that he meets with Obama Sympathizers like David Axelrod …..Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop catering to the Radical Left, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician.
Trump making the comments after Pope Leo suggested that God doesn’t hear the prayers of Trump, saying
“Jesus is the King of Peace, who rejects war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war”
The Pope making the comments when talking about the war with Iran, telling Christians not to be fearful of Islam and claiming people should welcome mass migration saying
“The fears are created by those who oppose immigration & seek to keep out people who might come from another country, from another religion.”
He went on to say*
“Jesus told us, blessed are the peacemakers. But woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic or political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth”
Christians were quick to point out that Jesus never said those – except for blessed are the peacemaker – criticizing the Pope for misquoting the Christ.
