Joe Biden has indicated that he is thinking about reversing some of the Tariffs that President Donald Trump put in place in 2018 because Trump said he was putting an end to unfair trade practices and intellectual property theft.
Speaking at the Economic Club of New York Trump said,
“Since China’s entrance into the World Trade Organization in 2001, no one has manipulated better or taken advantage of the United States more. I will not say the word ‘cheated,’ but nobody’s cheated better than China, I will say that.”
Now Biden told key members of his Cabinet that he’s leaning toward removing some of them.
Some of the tariffs that Biden plans to exempt are products covered by Trump’s Section 301 which experts believe will aggravate the labor movement.
Many labor representatives have already warned the administration against reversing any of the tariffs. In fact, they wrote a letter to Biden saying they expect him to keep all the tariffs in place saying that “our government must act in the national interest to strengthen our economy for the future.”
In addition some labor officials were already upset with Biden over his decision to invoke the defense production act for solar power which not only devote billions for the U.S. production of solar panels clean energy technologies but waived potential trade penalties for solar developers importing panels from southeast Asia.
Others across the nation have also expressed their discontent with Biden over the move as inflation is at a new 40 year high of 8.6% and consumers are paying record high prices for gas, food and housing saying Biden needs to focus on lowering costs for Americans not giving a break to China.
