Texas Governor Greg Abbott said this week that his administration is considering challenging a SCOTUS ruling that says the states must provide free public education to all children, including illegal migrants.
“Texas already long ago sued the federal government about having to incur the costs of the education program, in a case called Plyler versus Doe,” The Gov. said on an interview adding,
“the Supreme Court ruled against us on the issue about denying, or let’s say Texas having to bear that burden.”
Plyler v. Doe is a Supreme Court case that said a state could not deny public education funding for children who are in the country illegally.
Gov. Abbott pointing out the enormous tax burden educating illegal migrants has on American tax payers noting that the Plyler v. Doe is an outdated ruling as the circumstances of illegal migration have changed drastically,
“I think we will resurrect that case and challenge this issue again, because the expenses are extraordinary and the times are different than when Plyler versus Doe was issued many decades ago.”
Governor Abbott enacted Operation Lone Star to help slow the surge of illegal migrants at the U.S. Mexico border which saw more than 221,000 illegal migrants cross in the month of March alone.
In addition, the Texas Gov. is speaking out against the Biden administrations decision to rescind Title 42.
Abbott’s statements come after the Monday night leak of a draft opinion by the Supreme Court that indicated the justices were planning on overturning Roe v. Wade.
