New York Supreme Court Strikes Down Law Allowing Illegal Migrants To Vote

The New York Supreme Court has ruled that illegal migrants in the City of New York are not allowed to vote.

The decision comes after the Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a lawsuit back in January when the city decided to allow illegal migrants to vote.

A State Supreme Court judge said the law which would have allowed nearly 1 million illegal migrants to vote, violated the State Constitution.

“There is no statutory ability for the City of New York to issue inconsistent laws permitting non-citizens to vote and exceed the authority granted to it by the New York State Constitution. Though voting is a right that so many citizens take for granted, the City of New York cannot ‘obviate’ the restrictions imposed by the Constitution.”

About 1 million illegal migrants live in New York City, according to the RNC who celebrated the ruling in a statement.

“Today’s ruling is a huge victory for election integrity and the rule of law: American elections should be decided by American citizens. The [Republican National Committee (RNC)] is proud to head a broad coalition in successfully challenging this unconstitutional scheme and will continue to lead the effort across the country to ensure only citizens can vote in America’s elections.”

The law is not set to go into effect until January of next year and will not have an effect on Tuesday’s primary election in New York.
