Senators Who Received Pharma Money As Thune Says Codifying Lower Drug Costs ‘Controversial’

Senate Majority Leader John Thune is saying that codifying President Donald Trump’s Executive Order lowering prescription drug prices, could be controversial to pass in the Senate.

Many are now pointing out the amount of pharmaceutical contributions senators have received over the last 34 years. – in fact according to OpenSecrets data the Pharmaceuticals/Health Products sector contributed more than  $94,842,908 to U.S. Senators from 1990 to 2024,

 

Including

Chuck Schumer (D-NY): $1,500,000

 

Elizabeth Warren (D-MA): $822,573

 

Bernie Sanders (I-VT): $1,417,633

OpenSecrets reports Sanders received $1,417,633 from the pharmaceuticals/health products sector

 

Bob Casey (D-PA): $1,790,780

 

Casey is noted as a top recipient, with OpenSecrets confirming significant pharmaceutical contributions, including $99,000 from companies like Merck and Bristol Myers Squibb.

 

Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): $700,000

 

Ron Wyden (D-OR): $1,500,000

 

Mitt Romney (R-UT): $3,378,614

 

Mitch McConnell (R-KY): $2,020,462

 

John Cornyn (R-TX): $1.5 million

 

John Thune (R-SD): $400,000
